An Organization Listening To Those Without A Voice

Founder - John Ballas is a committed Christian,  husband and father of five with a Master of Divinity degree from Westminster Theological Seminary in Glenside PA and a B.A. from Saint Joseph's University.

A life-long resident of DELCO with no prior criminal history until May of 2019 when defending his family and himself on his own door step at 3:00 am. from a violent, intoxicated man on reality distorting drugs, according to hospital admissions records.  This was a man determined to kill or do serious bodily harm. The defendant, John Ballas, instructed his wife to call the State Police (911) but they arrived 15 minutes after the call, nor did they stay on the line while the family was terrorized. The defendant fired one shot from a .38 hand gun after warning the man five times that he had a gun. The final warning was, "Do not come any closer or I will shoot."  After 15 seconds of thinking it over, the man told the defendant, "You gotta gun, you gotta gun. Shoot me, shoot me!" Then after a few more seconds he said, "I'm gonna f*ck, you up. You understand, you understand?" He then proceeded forward with his head down. The State Police investigator either misquoted or flat out lied and said the iPhone audio that captured the dialogue said, "Don't shoot, Don't shoot!"

Held at G.W. Hill's maximum security unit for 10 months without bail for first degree murder but released on time served for involuntary manslaughter, rather than risk a trial with mandatory minimum sentencing guidelines. It was a trial he probably would have won, according to his attorney, as he was objectively within his rights of the PA's Castle Doctrine and the fact that the man was caught on video stating he was going to kick their door in, just moments before the man attempted to do just that. The case was scheduled to go to trial the week the courts were shut down by Covid-19. Had the defendant decided to go to trial a jury would not be available for another 11 months. He took a plea that he could not turn down. He now has insight into the dark side of the judicial machine that imprisons the accused and considers them guilty before a trial is conducted. He believes the DELCO system grinds slowly, incentivized to keep the untried inmates incarcerated as long as possible to make money for the county and (at the time) the corporation that ran the for-profit prison.
