Hate Bait

By Kathy Plush Garnet Valley, PA

What good is gained when choosing to fight?

Do you really think it's black and white?

Or is the truth coopted by points of view

Coloring a world till its black and blue.

The press is pressing to stay alive

Indifferent to facts as they drive by

Snippets of what they think will sell

Unconcerned that they have created hell.

In coordinated fashion, they dangle bait

Living water in such an agitated state.

Never mind fallout - cast lines at any cost

Even if sanity is temporarily lost.

Hateful anger - justified or not

Agenda-driven chaos stirring the pot.

Many have died and yes they all mattered

Poster children of the beaten and the battered

We know one by name and it is George Floyd

His legacy lives on while cities are destroyed.

But good can spring from this criminal act

If reason and common sense come back

Ignore the lure to riot and fight

Take a deep breath and go to the light.

We need the forces in blue to be honest

Media and elected who live up to the promise

Where selfless service leads the way

Our law guiding what they do and say.

We are one race - so let's hate hate

And refuse to take the political bait

Honor feelings and run with facts

Work to respond and not react.

Don't take a knee - take a stand

Reach out for your neighbor's hand,

To lift, to serve and to be the one

Working to live like God's only Son.

And as the Spirit spreads His wings

Breathing His life and filling all things

No more gasping just relax and know

Your Divine Friend is in you wherever you go.
